Add a live chat widget to EmDash
Live chat and support widgets (Intercom, Crisp, Tawk.to, HubSpot chat and others) are a script you paste into your pages. With Header & Footer Code you add it once and choose exactly where it appears.
Add the widget
Section titled “Add the widget”-
Copy the install snippet from your chat provider. It’s usually a
<script>tag with your workspace or site ID. -
In Header & Footer Code, choose New snippet and paste it.
-
Use these settings:
Setting Value Why Placement Body end Widgets aren’t needed for the first paint; loading last keeps pages fast. Priority 10 Default. Raise it if other body-end scripts must run first. -
Save and reload your site. The chat bubble should appear.
If your provider’s instructions say to put the code in the <head>, use Head instead.
Show it only where it helps
Section titled “Show it only where it helps”Use targeting to limit the widget:
| Goal | Include paths | Exclude paths |
|---|---|---|
| Support and pricing pages only | /support, /support/*, /pricing |
|
| Everywhere except checkout | /checkout, /checkout/* |
|
| Only on blog posts | /blog/* and Page kind Content pages |
|
| English pages only | Locales en |
Exclude always wins over include.
Test before you go live
Section titled “Test before you go live”Start with Include paths set to one page you can check, such as /support. Once the widget looks
right there, change the targeting to where you really want it. To pull it quickly, switch the snippet
Off from the list.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Bubble doesn’t appear | Check the snippet is On, the layout renders <EmDashBodyEnd />, and the targeting matches the page. |
| Two bubbles | The widget is also in your theme or loaded through GTM. Keep one. |
| Slows the page down | Keep it at Body end and limit it to the pages that need it. |
